I'm getting asked more and more for a very simple morning smoothie for kids who are not used to eating greens or drinking smoothies at all.
This is not a smoothie that I would give every day but it is a great way to initiate your kids into drinking some greens. Now this smoothie can be made green or purple. If you think your child won't drink it because it's green then try the purple option.
The eventual goal is to use less fruit and more green, nuts, seeds and healthy fats once they are used to drinking it.
This is a super sweet smoothie for first timers. Personally this one is a little sweet for us but I've made this for many kids and I'm yet to find one that is not won over to the green side with this one.
If it's too thick - add some more water. Enjoy! Alisa
Ingredients
- 2 frozen bananas (best frozen very ripe the ones with black spots are the best as they are sweeter)
- 1 cup of fresh pineapple
- 2 cups of coconut water, almond milk or filtered water (sweetest is the coconut water, followed by almond milk followed by water but all will taste nice)
- 1 tightly packed cup baby spinach
- 3-4 medjool dates
- 1 tsp raw organic honey
- 1/2 scraped vanilla bean or 1/2 tsp organic vanilla extract (not essence!)
- **PURPLE OPTION - 3/4 cup of blueberries (frozen is fine)
- 1 tsp magic sprinkles
Directions
- Blend dates, banana and spinach to make a paste
- Add remaining ingredients and blend
- Serve and enjoy and use leftovers for icey poles!
