Making your own almond milk is SO easy. Oh and it's delicious. I always use organic almonds for this as almonds are so heavily sprayed with pesticides and fungicides. Who wants to be drinking that?? Yuk no thanks. You can make the minerals in your nuts more bioavailable in your body by soaking the nuts the night before in a little bowl of water.
You can buy a nut milk bag from most health food shops but for a few years I just used a sieve and before that a bit of muslin cloth! Nut milk bags are much easier though and cost around $10. It just separates the nut pulp from the liquid.
Ingredients
- A big handful of soaked organic almonds
- 3 dates
- A dash of vanilla extract (NOT vanilla essence - that stuff is nasty!) OR one fresh vanilla bean scraped.
- 2 cups of filtered water
Directions
- Using a high speed blender of thermomix blend until well combined then strain though a nut milk bag.
- Pour into a glass milk bottle and it should keep up to 3 days.
- Save the almond pulp and this can be used to make Carrot and Zucchini Muffins or Rum Balls. Sometimes I even sprinkle it on porridge.
- You can use nut milk for smoothies, breakfasts, drinking plain or Chia Pudding .
